Barbara Jean Weiss was born in Indianola, Mississippi on March 2, 1944 to Claude and Mattie Pemberton. She gave her life to Christ at an early age of 12 years old baptized in “Fourmile Lake" Mississippi Delta. She later moved to Chicago at the age of 21. She worked as an operator at the Continental Canning factory and later worked as a Medical Finance Assistant in Chicago, Illinois.
Mother Barbara worked faithfully in Progressive Pilgrim Fellowship church. She was our first hospitality President, and later Special Events President to lead the charge to prepare for funerals, weddings, and Pastor Anniversary dinners. Nearly every Sunday morning from 2004 to 2014 she prepared breakfast for the congregation during Sunday school, and weekly on Wednesday evenings she and her daughter Toni prepared evening dinner for the Bible study crew. Every week we looked forward to our celebration, gathering to indulge in great food, friendship, & fellowship with our church, family and friends. The moments became essential for our soul. “Our Special Events Team” grew to include: Leslie & Ronnie Marshall, Schimaine Williams, Abe Williams, Cynthia Harris, Mattie- Eugene Brown, Dorothy Anthony, Anthony Chapple, Sharon Smith, Melva Young & Al Gilchrist. This special events team continues to grow even until this day with Don Perkins, Joyce Johnson, Cynthia Chagois, Jerome - Alice Scott & Sharion Geisekhoba.
Mother Barbara, birthed three children: Dobankia Weiss -entered into rest on November 1, 2017. Her surviving children are Toni Bell and Perry Bell (Denise Bell). She leaves to cherish her memory her nieces and nephews, Cherry, Dana (Yvette), Kathy, Ruth Leslie (Joshua), Shelia (Al) Gilchrist, Ricky (Sheral) Johnson, and Rory (Lynn) Johnson. Special Cousins: Willie McDaniel, Barbara McDaniels, Gloria Dean, Otis Anthony Jr., Alma Rose Munson, Jessie Mae, Bettye Jean Strong, and Corine Brooks. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was definitely blessed to give life to so many beautiful people.
