Edna Beatrice Green McJoy was born September 4, 1928, in Lake Port/Lake Village, Arkansas to the parents of Elder Earnest F. Green and Roxiana Murphy Green. She was the youngest of eight siblings. All of her siblings, Harvey Green, Sanders Green, Robert Lee Bell, Otie B. Nellom, Selena Johnson, Savannah Green, Ozzie Lee Bell (Baby Rae), and Willie Wrin preceded her in death. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1967.
On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas, NV she gained her wings.
She married Mann McJoy on March 20, 1948, and to this union ten children were born. She and her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1967. She attended elementary school in Lake Village, Arkansas, Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, California and completed her education at Adult Education Programs in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2002, she completed the Certificate of Progress Program (all four phases) through the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and received a Christian Education Diploma. The program included 40 courses. She was also a certified instructor with Greater New Jerusalem Christian Bible Training Institute.
She was baptized in Lake Port, Arkansas at an early age. Before moving to Las Vegas, she was a member of Christian Liberty Church in Lake Village where she served as an usher and the Sunday School treasurer. She joined Greater New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend F. N. Addison in June 1967. Immediately, she joined the Usher Board and was a faithful usher for 46 years until her health began to fail in 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mann McJoy; one stepson, Major McJoy; son, Earnest Green; and one daughter, Mary.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons: Colbert McJoy and Darnell McJoy all of Las Vegas, Nevada. Seven daughters: Christine (J.B.) Fields, Irene Jones, Josie McJoy (Robert) Jackson, Betty Jean McJoy, Rose McJoy (Morris) Talley, Barbra Adrion-Ballard (Gregory), and Jacqueline McJoy Brown (Donald) all of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter in law Delores Burch; Goddaughter, Dorothy Coleman and special friends, Emma Hall and OraNell Harris all of Las Vegas, Nevada; special nieces: Louis Brown-Babbs and Diane McKay of Chicago, IL.
31 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 26 great great-grandchildren all of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends to mourn her loss.
