James Melvin Gray Sr. affectionately known as “Big Worm” was born on December 6, 1953, to the proud parents of James M. Gray and Audrey E. Melvin in Richmond, VA. James departed this life on Thursday 29, 2024.
James attended Richmond, VA public schools, Columbus, Ohio public schools, and Los Angeles, CA public schools. James married Kathy Winston in 1972 and from this union came 4 four sons. He later married Shenna Berry in 1994 and from this union came 2 sons and a daughter.
James loved hard and didn’t play about his family. James was a jack of all trades. More recently, he enjoyed his career as a truck driver. James enjoyed skating, drawing, c-walking, and motorcycles. James’ passion for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons, lead him to a life of memberships, offices held, and a brother ship like no other. James’ impressive motorcycle resume includes retired president of Rare Breed, Las Vegas chapter, retired club member of Chosen Few, previous president of Deuces, San Bernadino, Los Angeles chapter, and even the designer of the Second II None patch. James was a comedian, life of the party, and a local celebrity across many states. James never met a stranger. There was never a dull moment when Big Worm was in the building.
Jame is preceded in death by his grandparents Richard L. Gray Jr., Ardeller Howell Gray, Adele Anderson Melvin, and Floyd Anderson. His mother, Audrey E. Dixon, father, James M. Gray, and bonus mother, Marie Gray.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Melvin Gray, Jimmy Gray, Quincy Gray, Jason Gray of Las Vegas Nevada. James Gray Jr., Jamar Gray and daughter Jameisha Gray of Richmond, Virginia. Sequila Macon, whom he loved as his daughter. He also leaves to cherish his beloved sister Jan Gray-Tucker (David) of Columbus, Ohio, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, cousins and other cherished relatives and friends.
James will be deeply missed by all. He was so loved and touched so many lives. James has left us all with many memories to cherish.
