Lavern "Vern" Jordan

Lavern “Vern” Jordan was born April 16, 1946. Born to Leon Jordan and Lucy Brown-Jordan, the family resided in Delhi, Louisiana, where Vern was raised to value faith, hard work, and family. It was these values which formed a pillar of guidance to Vern throughout his personal and professional life. At the age of 80 years old, and after living a long and fulfilling life, surrounded by those he loved and whom loved him, with his loving wife Fredessa at his side, Vern entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2026.

Vern received his education in Louisiana and graduated from Waverly High School. It was while living in Louisiana that Vern would meet Fredessa, whom together in April 1967 would relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a month of making Las Vegas their new home, they would unite in holy matrimony on May 3, 1967, beginning a remarkable journey of love, partnership, family and shared life experiences that would span nearly six decades. Working together, they would build a life rooted in faith, strengthened by love, and focused on caring and providing for their family.

Vern was always diligent and resourceful when providing for his family. Throughout his professional life Vern was recognized for his dedication to his work, strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Upon arriving in Las Vegas, he made good use of several employment opportunities including a stint at the Nevada test site for nuclear weapons. He built a distinguished career in the gaming industry, working at some of Las Vegas' premier casinos where his personality and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues and patrons alike, culminating with him being recognized as an award-winning Baccarat Dealer.

Beyond the gaming industry, Vern owned and operated a successful dry-cleaning business for many years, further demonstrating his confidence as an entrepreneur and commitment to excellence and client service. He was also a very successful real estate investor and day-trader whose vision, determination and business acumen created opportunities for himself and his family. Vern would ultimately retire from Caesars Palace in 2004 after nearly five decades of professionalism and distinguished service.

Vern was a long-standing and devoted member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church, making it his spiritual home for nearly six decades, beginning in June, 1967. He faithfully served in the church's feeding ministry, helping to provide meals and support for those in need. Whether it be through his presence in his church, his professionalism in his work and business endeavors, or his immeasurable love and devotion to his family and closest friends, Vern was a man of integrity whose actions consistently confirmed and mirrored his values.

With all that he would achieve, Vern still found his greatest joy in life's simpler pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, spending countless hours exploring the lakes, rivers and coastal waters throughout the Western United States. Some of his fondest and most treasured memories were made while fishing alongside his sons, grandsons and friends. For Vern it was not just a day fishing with his family or friends, it was an opportunity to share his wisdom, life lessons, funny stories and jokes, and encouragement with those that he loved. Vern and Fredessa shared a passion for travel, enjoying cruises that allowed them to see the world together, as well as attending sporting events where they proudly cheered on their sons and grandsons. Their love, encouragement, and unwavering support were a constant presence in the lives of their family.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Jordan and Lucy Brown-Jordan; his son, Darrell O'Shay Jordan; his brothers, Jonathan Jordan, Clemon Jordan, Leroy Jordan, and Leon Jordan Jr.; and his sisters, Vidalia Jordan, Rachel Butler, and Genovia Whitfield.

Vern leaves to hold and honor his memory his cherished and dearly beloved wife, Fredessa Jordan; his son, Vernon O'Dell Jordan; his grandsons, O'Shay Christopher Jordan, Brevin Lamar Jordan, and Jaylen Kyle Jordan; his sisters-in-law, Katie Jordan, Dora Smith, Jo Nell Whitlow (Franklyn), Beverly Owen, Willie Sue Wesly (Andrew), and Darlene Turner; a multitude of nieces and nephews; his extended family, including his daughter of the heart, Monique Lumpkin; his beloved church family; and immeasurable number of dear friends.

Vern will forever be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp wit, generous spirit, love for family, and willingness to share his wisdom with all of those in his presence. His unyielding values, infinite wisdom and cherished legacy will live on through the lives of everyone he touched. And though Vern is no longer with us in the physical sense, the memories he created during his journey with Fredessa, the love of his life of 59 years, and through the love he shared with his cherished family and friends, his presence will live on forever in the hearts and spirits of all of us who knew and loved him.
