Paul Terry Connor was born on February 18, 1942, to Bernice Evers and George Connor in Forest, Mississippi. Paul’s parents moved to Pittsburg, California where he spent his childhood through his teen years. Paul attended Pittsburg Elementary, Junior High and High Schools. Paul was active in all types of sports in high school. Paul played some football, baseball, basketball and track. Paul set a record in the pole vault at Pittsburg High School which still stands today. Paul accepted Christ at an early age and he attended First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, California. Paul graduated from high school and after that joined the Navy.
Paul spent 4 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War as an Aviation Ordinanceman. After serving in the Navy, Paul moved to Oakland, California. Paul attended Laney College under the GI Bill and while there he met Huey Newton and Bobby Seals and he became one of the first members of the Black Panther Party. Also at Laney College he met his first wife and they had his first daughter Volaunta. Paul worked several jobs in Oakland, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, he worked in a shipyard giving sailing lessons, he worked for a construction company, and he drove big rig trucks he dabbled in many jobs.
Paul lived in Oakland for many years he loved fishing and playing basketball and he was a die-hard Raider fan. Paul’s favorite NBA team was the Warriors. Paul loved living in Oakland but grew tired of the weather and he was ready to move somewhere warmer and to make a change in his life, find a career get married and settle down and he was lured to Las Vegas in 1983 by his good friend John “Buddy” Hill with the promise of a job working for Clark County. Paul worked at the Sanitation District and at the County Detention Center where he learned the trade of plumbing and he eventually became a Plumber working at Clark County Juvenile Detention.
In 1984 Paul was introduced to his wife Susie through co-workers and Paul and Susie married in 1985 and they had his second child Krystle and he became a second father to Alisa. Paul and Susie were married for 39 years. Paul retired from Clark County as a Plumber in 2003 and then he became employed at the Las Vegas Valley Water District in the mail room. Paul officially retired from working in 2010 and he and Susie moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Paul and Susie moved back to his home town of Pittsburg, California in 2013 and in 2015 they moved back to Las Vegas. Paul was a faithful member of Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada under the leadership of Dr. Welton T. Smith III where he was a member of the Iron Men and Male Choir.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory his wife Susie his daughters Volaunta and Krystle, his stepdaughter Alisa, his granddaughter Kahlia (Evan) his grandson Anthony Jr. (AJ) his sister Debra(Kenny) his brothers George Earl, Curtis, Byron and Jesse(Rochelle) one aunt Lil and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws and many many friends who loved him. Paul was predeceased by his sisters Billie, Arlise, and Georgene and his brother Jerry.
