Richard Childress “Ricky” passed away peacefully the morning of March 29, 2024, at his home with the love of his family and close friends surrounding him.
Richard was born June 6, 1957, in Warren, Arkansas to the late Rochelle Childress and Rosie Lee Hines. Richard moved to Las Vegas in 1964 at the age of 7 with his mother and 3 siblings. He loved riding bikes, playing basketball, baseball, and football. He attended Westside Elementary School where he continued his love for sports. He was very athletic growing up. Richard graduated from Western High School in 1976. Therefore, he received an athletic scholarship for basketball, then went on to college to live out his dream for the game.
Richard worked in hospitality, then went on to become a professional electrician. He worked around Las Vegas, serving the local businesses for 16 years, where he was respected for his dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with him.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed riding his bike, boy did he like riding his bike. Whether he had a car or not, he would ride his bike everywhere until the wheels fell off. He also liked watching and playing basketball, his favorite team was the Lakers. What he enjoyed most of all was cooking and finding solace and joy in the simple moments spent with his family and friends. He loved his family and was the best son, father, brother, cousin, uncle and was a great friend.
Richard will be dearly missed by his children, Richard Miles, Tiffany Childress, Barry Carter (Rishawn), James Harris, and Jasmine Montgomery, step-mother, Alice Childress, brothers, Earl Ellis, David Hines, and Andre Hines, sisters, Chris Flood (Edward), Cynthia Lyles, and Sherry Hines. Left to cherish his memories are his 21 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Lee Hines, Father, Rochelle Childress, and sisters, Christine Dubose and Luveina Day.
