Sylvia Justus (NEE. Salazar) was born August 28, 1964 in Tokyo Japan to Joseph and Gloria Salazar. Sylvia lived in various places in Japan due to her father’s enlistment in the air force. Upon returning to the states with her family. She began attending kindergarten at Nellis AFB. As many military families experience, Sylvia lived in several locations such as upstate New York and White Sands, New Mexico. Eventually, settling back in Las Vegas, Sylvia attended Votech High School where she studied cosmetology and earned her degree. Sylvia graduated at age 17, and had to wait until she turned 18 to take the state board test to receive her cosmetology license. Once she obtained her license, she went to work at Looking Good Beauty Salon. Sylvia spent her entire cosmetology career there, working her way up to salon manager. Spending 14 years at Looking Good, her gift of being able to talk to anyone, whether she knew them for 10 minutes or 10 years, earned her many friends and loyal clients. It was during this time, shortly after beginning her career, that Sylvia met her Husband too be, James Justus. The two 18 year olds were introduced by a mutual friend and have been together ever since. One of her favorite memories was from 1984 where she and James worked as extras on the film “Rocky IV”. On August 20, 1988, the couple was married at St. Annes Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Sylvia and James had 2 daughters together, Kymber(1995) and Sydney(1996). During her second pregnancy Sylvia stopped working to be a full time mother. She maintained her passion for doing hair by continuing to work on family and friends. Sylvia had a knack for fashion, and would never dream of leaving the house without a piece of jewelry to make a bold statement. On September 23, 2017, Sylvia became a grandmother with the birth of Adalie, who she loved dearly. Sylvia was a very social and outgoing person. She delighted in being around people. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed seeing everyone around her happy.
Sylvia asked that everyone remember her with smiles and laughter, because that is how she will remember all of us.
Sylvia left us on November 5, 2024 at 4:43 A.M. She is survived by her husband James, Daughters Kymber and Sydney, Grand daughter Adalie and many beloved family and friends.
Sylvia Justus will be greatly missed. The world is a little bit emptier, but there is a new bright, shiny star in the heavens.
