William O’Neill “Billy” McCurdy transitioned on Friday, March 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and upheld by the thoughts and prayers of all who cherished him throughout the community.
Billy was born on April 27, 1950, in Forest, Mississippi, to James O’Neil and Lovey Marie McCurdy, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1952, his parents relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, bringing Billy and his brother Dwight, where his lifelong roots were established.
A 1967 graduate of Valley High School, Billy attended Nevada College in Carson City. He later became a fixture in the Historic Westside of Las Vegas, where he met his beautiful wife, Billie Jeanett. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1986, and remained devoted to one another until his passing. Together, they nurtured and grew a loving blended family.
At a young age, Billy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Cox Upper Room Church of God in Christ (COGIC), under the leadership of the late Bishop Clyde C. Cox. He later moved his membership to Greater St. Paul COGIC under the leadership of the late Bishop Carruth Hall, where he served faithfully until relocating to Northern Nevada.
Billy faithfully served in ministry for 50 years. His pastoral journey began in 1976 in Hawthorne, Nevada, and would span across the state. He served as Pastor of Progressive Community Church of God in Christ in Las Vegas until his transition.
William O’Neill McCurdy held many offices in the Church of God in Christ, Inc., and most recently served as First Administrative Assistant to Bishop Donald C. Bronson, Jurisdictional Prelate. He was a trusted advisor to jurisdictional leaders and local pastors and was deeply committed to mentoring aspiring ministers and elders. One of his most valued responsibilities was overseeing government affairs within the church, where he helped connect the ministry with local, state, and national elected officials.
Billy was also a successful entrepreneur and owner of McCurdy & McCurdy Media Group, a business he and his wife Billie built from the ground up beginning in 1992. The McCurdy family has remained a cornerstone in the Historic Westside and throughout the state of Nevada for over seventy years.
A dedicated public servant, Billy was a former constable for the Las Vegas Township and served on numerous boards, including the Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Regional Transportation (RTC), Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, Mineral County Economic Advisory Committee, City of Las Vegas Community Block Grant Advisory Board, and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority Commission. His many contributions were recognized when he was named a Distinguished Nevadan by the Nevada System of Higher Education in 2021 and as an inaugural inductee into the Historic Westside Legacy Park in 2022.
A true pillar of the community, Billy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, pastor, mentor, and friend. His life was marked by faith, service, and a deep commitment to uplifting others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Darryl McCurdy and Dwight Marlon McCurdy.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 40 years, Mother Billie J. McCurdy; his children: LaShauna McCurdy Davis (John Ray), Patrick McCurdy, Commissioner William McCurdy II (Susie), Willie Dixon, and Tanecia Dixon; his siblings: Brenda Carter, Gregory McCurdy (Susana), and Carmen Jackson (Jamil); his sister and brother-in-love, Roma and John Coleman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
Loved always and remembered forever, Billy McCurdy will be deeply missed by his family, the Progressive Community Church, the Nevada First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction family, and the entire Las Vegas community.
